Who is Sport Dank?
San Diego Mexican hip hop artist, Sport Dank, has a pure talent for delivering music that his listeners can relate to. Originally from Guadalajara the capital and largest city of Jalisco, Mexico, at the early age of 10 he migrated to the states in pursuit of a better life and opportunity. Raised without a father, he had to learn how to survive and hustle at an early age. Music was his outlet.
As a youth he credits his musical influences that had the greatest impression on him as Lil Rob, Mr. Shadow, Lil One, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre. First going by the name Sporty in the streets, his appreciation and respect for Bob Marley’s music and his infamous reputation of, “Smoking Big”, he entered the Rap scene as Sport Dank in 2010.
His desire to pursue music was encouraged by his good friend, DJ Rhen… who helped ignite the spark by allowing him to perform his first song recorded entitled, “Drop it Low” that was dedicated to the ladies.
From there, the spark grew into a fire and quest to make music and share his message with the masses. With quite the impressive reputation for helping artists advance and teaching them how to be successful within the industry he wanted to work with Mr. Frank Nitty, the Underground Legend. He was able to do so in 2011 when he met him with E-40 at a concert in Perris, CA. There Frank Nitty recognized the drive and hustle and knew he could help take him to the next level.
Taking Sport Dank under his wing, they took flight into the next phase by creating a street single featuring Doggpound Legend, Badazz, entitled, “1 Mile Away”. When creating the video, Grittystyle, opened up the floodgates of opportunity with a well-connected and respected network that helped advance Sport Dank’s name into the hip-hop community. Eventually, he made music with Bizzy Bone, JahFree, and a long list of others.
After a small break from the rap game to focus on caring for his family and single mother, he is now back reunited with his Grittystyle family. You can anticipate an album that is sure to heat up the summer, be on the look out for, “The Reintroduction”. A project that will make an impact for all cultures!
